A man living in a camper out behind the house gets into it with his landlord and the whole thing falls apart fast. He's on SSI, says he's got like two or three hundred bucks left after rent, and he's convinced she's just jealous he has nice stuff. That's where it starts. The officer lets him talk. And he talks a lot. He says they got into a screaming match and he threw his water bottle at the wall, says it missed her, says it wasn't even aimed at her. Then a second later he says he was trying to scare her. Those are two different things and the officer notices. What he doesn't know is the landlord and a witness are telling a different story. They say he didn't just throw a water bottle. They say there was a soda can too, and that he punched her in the shoulder. He denies the punch. He kind of denies the soda can. There's a soda can sitting right there on the ground. Then comes the part nobody in the video expects. Because of how the law works in Illinois now, this gets charged as a misdemeanor and there's no bail, so he's getting released as soon as he's processed. The landlord cannot believe it. She keeps asking how he can just come right back. And the answer is worse than she thinks because he pays rent, which means legally he's a tenant, which means she can't just throw him off her own property. She'd have to evict him. So one call, three problems that don't connect. The crime gets a charge. The contact gets bond conditions. The property situation gets nothing, because that part isn't criminal at all. We could not confirm his full name, the department, the exact date, or how it ended in court. The charges stated on camera are battery and assault. What would you have done if you were the landlord here? Let us know down below.
