Lee County, Florida – On April 17, 2025, officers responded to assist Animal Services after receiving a disturbing complaint about a dog allegedly tethered to a tree for an extended period of time. When police arrived, they found a female mastiff mix suffering from a severe neck injury caused by an embedded collar. The dog was placed into an Animal Services transport cage and taken to a veterinarian for emergency evaluation. Police observed the dog’s neck to be extremely swollen, with fresh broken skin surrounding the collar. According to the report, the skin appeared to be growing around the collar and a strong foul odor was coming from the wound. The man responsible for the dog allegedly gave investigators multiple conflicting stories about how the injuries occurred before eventually signing over ownership of the animal. He was ultimately arrested and charged with animal cruelty. This body camera footage documents the police investigation and the events that unfolded after the initial report.
