On November 7th, 2018, Peggy Ann Fulford — a 60-year-old self-styled financial adviser operating across the Southern District of Texas under aliases including Peggy King, Peggy Williams, and Devon Cole — was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in February 2018 to interstate transportation of stolen property, following an investigation that revealed she had defrauded professional athletes of $5,794,870 over multiple years. Fulford falsely claimed degrees from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, fabricated a Wall Street career, and told prospective clients she charged no fee because she already had millions and simply wanted to protect them — a pitch specifically engineered to neutralize financial skepticism and win unfettered access to clients' bank and investment accounts. Named victims include former NBA players Dennis Rodman and Travis Best and NFL players Ricky Williams and Lex Hilliard, whose funds were systematically diverted through dozens of bank accounts to finance Fulford's personal lifestyle. Judge Keith P. Ellison imposed the statutory maximum and ordered $5,794,870 in restitution, overruling all defense objections. At sentencing, when Ricky Williams's ex-wife was asked how much Fulford had stolen from the family, she answered simply: all of it.
