It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On March 18, 2024, shortly after 9:11 PM, Patrolman Christian Nelson from the Red Bank Police saw a 2023 car driving erratically near Globe Court and Mechanic Street. He decided to pull the vehicle over and approached the driver, Megan Stack. She said she was returning from 7-11 and heading home. The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol and saw several open containers inside the car. Megan insisted she hadn’t drunk any alcohol that evening. Suspecting she was intoxicated, Patrolwoman Grace Maggiulli arrived to perform field sobriety tests. The first was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, which checks eyes for signs of impairment. Next was the Walk and Turn test. During it, Megan couldn’t keep her heel on the line and kept losing her balance. The last was the One Leg Stand test; she struggled to lift her foot properly and didn’t count correctly. Because of her reckless driving, the smell of alcohol, and her failure to complete the tests properly, Patrolwoman Maggiulli arrested Megan for driving under the influence. Megan’s car was towed and held for at least 12 hours under John’s Law. She was taken to the police station for processing. At the station, Megan was read her rights as a driver but refused to give good breath samples. After processing, she was released and told to appear in court later. She received several tickets. They included charges for driving under the influence, refusing chemical tests, reckless driving, careless driving, improper lane use, delaying traffic, having open containers, and not showing proof of insurance. Court records show that on September 19, 2024, Megan was found guilty of both driving drunk and refusing a chemical test. She was ordered to use an ignition interlock device for nine months and spend 12 hours at a driver resource center. She paid a total of $1,230 in fines.
