Incident: On July 20, 2026, Sterling Heights Police officers received a Flock camera alert for a wanted vehicle and positioned themselves in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and 15 Mile Road in an attempt to locate it. An officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit. The pursuit eventually came to an end when the suspect vehicle abruptly stopped. The primary officer's patrol vehicle made minor contact with the rear of the suspect vehicle during the stop. The driver then fled from the vehicle on foot while the passenger remained behind and complied with officers. Police quickly apprehended the driver, while the passenger was later released. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a large amount of miscellaneous property along with a small container containing a white powdery substance. An evidence technician tested the substance on scene, where it tested positive for methamphetamine. The reason the vehicle was originally entered into the Flock camera system as wanted is unclear due to redactions contained within the released police footage. Records show that the driver had also fled from Roseville Police two days earlier. The driver, identified as Thomas Moody, was charged in connection with the Sterling Heights incident with felony fleeing and eluding, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony resisting and obstructing police, and operating without a license. He was also held on charges stemming from the earlier Roseville incident, including fleeing and eluding, operating without a license, and unlawful use of a license plate. Moody received a combined bond of $17,500 at 10% for the two cases, meaning $1,750 would be required to post the cash portion of the bond. At the time this video was produced, Moody had not posted bond and remained in custody at the Macomb County Jail. His next scheduled court appearance is September 21, 2026.
