Akron Police observed Elijah Hawkins driving a vehicle without headlights on Wildwood Ave, noting the poor lighting conditions in the residential area after sunset. Aware of Hawkins' previous encounters with law enforcement and his suspended license, officers attempted to stop him when he accelerated at an unsafe speed. Despite signaling him to stop with lights and sirens, Hawkins ignored the commands and continued driving, eventually turning onto Beechwood Dr. without stopping at a posted sign. As Hawkins drove northbound on Beechwood Dr., officers confirmed the vehicle belonged to him and that his license was still suspended. Upon stopping in a driveway on Work Dr., officers approached Hawkins, informing him of the reason for the stop and his lack of a valid license. Familiar with Hawkins' criminal history, including violence and weapons offenses, officers noticed an empty pistol holster in the vehicle. Despite repeated orders to exit the vehicle, Hawkins refused to comply. Officers attempted to physically remove him, but he resisted, pulling his arm away multiple times, citing injuries from a previous incident. Eventually, with the assistance of additional officers, Hawkins was handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser. His actions obstructed the investigation and posed a safety risk to the officers. Hawkins was charged with Failure to Comply and Obstructing Official Business, receiving multiple citations.
