On January 25, 2025, Pullman Police Officer Carpenter stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. Officer Carpenter was accompanied by a Washington State University Police Department (WSUPD) Cadet. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old woman, did not have her driver's license with her. She was asked to step out of the vehicle, where she admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. At the conclusion of field sobriety testing, she agreed to blow into a portable breath testing device. The result was 0.136% BAC. She was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and was transported to the Pullman Police holding facility. That is where an anxiety fueled meltdown occurred. She eventually regained her composure and submitted to an evidential breath test, where the result was 0.091% BAC. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
