On August 11, 2022, the Athens-Clarke County Police were called to the Walmart in Athens. Loss Prevention was detaining a shoplifter who was caught switching price tags and concealing stolen merchandise. The officer explains that normally the shoplifter would be issued a citation and released, but because the 21-year-old already had an open shoplifting case from another Walmart, she was going to be taken to jail. While searching her incident to arrest, officers find additional stolen merchandise that she was wearing. Not surprising, she had two cells phones in her possession. A total of $94.30 in stolen merchandise was recovered.
