On April 22, 2026, Decatur Police were called to East William Street for a report of an armed subject. Illinois State Police say 54-year-old Michael Boliard was followed into a building, where he pointed a crossbow at officers. Police opened fire, striking him. Officers gave medical aid at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital. Boliard survived and was taken into custody after being released from the hospital on May 5. He faces charges including aggravated assault of a peace officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance, and threatening public officials. WAND reported the Macon County State’s Attorney said the officers were justified and would not face criminal charges. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
