An officer's routine check of a disabled vehicle quickly uncovers a shocking level of impairment and unexplained damage. On May 21, 2023, Sergeant Matthew Gajewski encountered a disabled 2020 Toyota SUV with a flat tire. Upon making contact with the driver, he immediately noticed slurred speech and the distinct odor of alcohol, which the driver denied. The situation escalated as the driver refused to provide identification or cooperate with field sobriety exercises, failing to complete the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and stumbling significantly during the One Leg Stand. The officer also observed a part of the vehicle "literally just came off," indicating a prior collision that the driver initially muttered a denial about.
