Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:44 AM on May 2, 2024, Officer Lauren Barnard of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department went to Barnett Shoals Road and Lexington Road after receiving a report about a driver asleep at the wheel. When she arrived, she found a woman asleep inside a gray 2014 Lexus IS 250. Officer Barnard woke her and told her to place the car in park. The woman, later identified as 21-year-old Lyndsey Mays, then got out of the vehicle. While speaking with Mays, Officer Barnard smelled alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment. Mays said she had consumed two drinks earlier that night. Suspecting that Mays was impaired, Barnard asked her to complete field sobriety exercises. Mays first refused but later agreed. After the exercises, Officer Barnard concluded that Mays was impaired. Mays was arrested for DUI based on the traffic violations, the smell of alcohol, her signs of impairment, her admission that she had been drinking, and her poor performance during the field sobriety exercises. At the scene, Officer Barnard read Mays the Georgia Implied Consent Notice. Mays agreed to take a breath test. Mays was taken to the department's downtown substation for testing. Officer Cortez remained at the scene until the Lexus was towed. The breath test showed a BAC of 0.217%, nearly three times Georgia's legal limit of 0.08%. Afterward, Mays was taken to the Clarke County Jail. She was booked and issued summonses for: DUI (40-6-391(a)(5)) Obedience to traffic control devices required (40-6-20) Impeding traffic flow (40-6-184) Signals required on turning (40-6-123) Mays was later released on an $1,883 bond while awaiting court. On October 8, 2024, she pleaded guilty to the charges. Her sentence included 24 hours in confinement, 12 months of probation on two counts, and 40 hours of community service.
