A house is burning. Thick smoke is pouring through the doors. And somewhere inside, an unconscious man is running out of time. On February 18, 2020, officers from the Grass Valley Police Department in California responded to reports of a house fire on East Empire Street. When officers arrived, they discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence. Bystanders warned them that a man named Cory was still trapped inside. Officers desperately called out his name, but nobody answered. The smoke was so thick that officers couldn't see inside the house. With the front entrance blocked by dangerous conditions, Officer Jonathan Brown decided to search for another way in. He made his way around the property and discovered a side door. After kicking it open, he spotted something lying on the floor. It was the missing man, unconscious and unable to escape. Without hesitation, Officer Brown grabbed the man's legs and began dragging him out of the smoke-filled home. Once outside, the officer shouted for emergency medical assistance. The man had suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation but was transported to a hospital for treatment. He was subsequently reported to be in stable condition. Moments after the rescue, flames engulfed the area where the man had been found. This incredible police bodycam footage captures the rescue and the split-second decisions that helped save a man's life.
