Dispatch reported a wrong-way car on Route 46 West had slammed into another vehicle. Lieutenant Anderson showed up. Officers Fisher and Rojas joined too. Officer Rojas reached the victim first. The man said his leg hurt bad. His 2007 Honda Accord took the hit from a 2016 Honda CR-V driving the wrong way. Paramedics later took him to the hospital. Officer Elnakib talked to State Police on scene. They got there first from a nearby job. He then approached the CR-V driver, Paola Velez. While chatting with her, he smelled booze. He saw clear signs she was impaired. Paola owned up to drinks at a Clifton bar that night. Medics checked her out. She turned down more care. So Officer Elnakib had her do sobriety tests. First came the Walk and Turn. Paola missed heel-to-toe steps. She wobbled a lot. Next was One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. She dropped it too soon. Last, she counted forward and back. She botched that too. From the crash, her booze admission, and failed tests, Officer Elnakib arrested her for DUI. Officer Rojas patted her down. They put her in the patrol car. Anthony’s Towing hauled her car for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Rojas drove her to Clifton Police headquarters. There, they read her the breath test rights. She first said yes. But she fought the Alcotest process. Cops charged her with refusal. After paperwork, a sober adult took her home. He signed the liability form for her. She got tickets for DUI, breath test refusal, reckless driving, careless driving, no docs, wrong-way on one-way, and lane drifts. 8:12 cue the horn section 9:17 lol 53:29 Can't say I blame her.
