On July 9, 2023, at approximately 6:18 pm, Trooper Alfred Williams was traveling westbound on University Blvd when he observed a white BMW and a blue Dodge Charger driving in close proximity. The vehicles were initially moving slowly but then rapidly accelerated. Trooper Williams, relying on his training and expertise, concluded that the vehicles were engaged in a race. He responded by activating his emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. However, the white BMW swiftly executed a U-turn and fled the scene. Meanwhile, the blue Dodge Charger continued at a high speed, entering State Road 33 northbound and subsequently turning onto Mt Olive Road. During the course of this pursuit, the driver of the Dodge Charger lost control of the vehicle while turning onto Mt Olive Road. The car veered off the roadway to the right and ultimately came to a stop within a retention pond.
