On October 21, 2024, Rio Rancho Police Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash. A caller indicated that a vehicle had driven off the roadway and hit a light pole, causing the pole to be knocked over. The first officers to arrive observed a silver Mazda on the sidewalk with no license plate. Officers ran the VIN and determined the vehicle was not registered and there was no insurance on the vehicle. One of the officers also observed an open bottle of alcohol in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle had walked across the street and was standing by a truck in a parking lot. Officers made contact with the 21-year-old woman and later determined she had an ID card only and not a driver's license. The police report indicates that officers could smell alcohol coming from the woman. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was later arrested for Driving While Under the Influence. She was transported to the Rio Rancho Police station, where she agreed to submit to a breath test. The result was 0.18% BAC. Her list of charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
