During the conference, Youngblood revealed that the deputies involved in the incident were Deputy Danielle Henderson and Deputy Michael Valdez. Henderson and Valdez arrived at the Sierra Vista Mobile Home Park in Rosamond after a report of a suspicious person trying to open multiple car door handles. Valdez saw a man who matched the description of the suspect. After the man tried to flee, he began shooting at Valdez. Valdez was shot in the forehead. He was then sent to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he received several stitches before being released. Before he was transported to the hospital, Valdez called for help from the S.W.A.T. team.
