On February 4, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to a single car motor vehicle accident. The 21-year-old driver of a pickup truck had jumped the curb and crashed into a wall in front of a residence. Officers discovered that the woman had no driver's license and warrants for her arrest. She blamed the accident on being distracted while on her cell phone. Suspecting that she was under the influence, Officers asked the woman to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. She refused to complete the tests as instructed and was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence. At the Las Cruces Police Station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.18% and 0.19% BAC. She was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and then was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
