2nd Pursuit On September 14, 2026, around 2:45 p.m., Arkansas State Police Trooper Collier Wright responded to an incident involving a gold Toyota Corolla that was reportedly failing to yield to West Memphis Police in the area of Missouri Road and Interstate 40. According to the police report, officers reported that the vehicle had expired tags, a broken rear window, and a 3-year-old child secured in a car seat in the backseat. Police also reported that one of the rear doors would swing open during sharp turns. West Memphis officers eventually discontinued the active pursuit because of concerns for the child's safety. However, officers continued monitoring the vehicle as it allegedly drove erratically, passed tractor-trailers over double-yellow lines, and drove through residential yards. Trooper Wright reported that he located the vehicle and followed without lights or sirens. When the driver noticed the patrol vehicle, the report states that he accelerated, nearly losing control during a turn. Trooper Wright then activated his lights and siren and maneuvered in front of the vehicle, eventually slowing it to a stop on the shoulder. West Memphis officers assisted in taking the driver into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim Abuzaid, a Jordanian national. According to the report, the vehicle had expired Arkansas tags and no insurance. Abuzaid was also reportedly not wearing a seat belt when he was removed from the vehicle. DHS was contacted and took custody of the 3-year-old child. Abuzaid was transported to the Crittenden County Jail, where standardized field sobriety tests were conducted. The report states that he did not appear to be intoxicated. ICE was notified and placed a detainer on Abuzaid. West Memphis Police handled the criminal charges.
