A Florida suspect thought the river was his way out. Officers were questioning 28-year-old Chase Cruz in Volusia County when he suddenly took off running while they were reading him his rights. But instead of stopping at the water, Cruz jumped into the Halifax River. That forced officers to switch the whole chase in seconds. One moment they were on land, the next they were grabbing paddleboards and heading into the water after him. The bodycam footage shows officers reaching Cruz in the river, tying a flotation device to him, and hauling him back on a paddleboard before taking him into custody. Police said Cruz was charged with loitering and prowling, plus resisting arrest. Did he really think jumping into the river would get him away?
