On June 23, 2025, Orange County deputies responded to a call from a woman claiming she was held against her will at knifepoint by her boyfriend. Deputies attempted to negotiate with 57-year-old Todd Hannigan, who barricaded himself in an Orlando apartment. After hours of attempted de-escalation, Hannigan advanced toward deputies with a knife, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
