An FWC Officer approaches two men throwing castnets from a bridge in South Florida. The officer searches the first cooler and finds only mullet. The second cooler contains several snook. The officer tells the fisherman he’s only allowed one snook between 28 and 32 inches in length. The officer finds a total of seven snook in the cooler, and all are under 28 inches. Realizing he is in trouble, the Fisherman offers to put the snook back in the water. The officer says no and tells the fisherman he is going to jail, and is quickly handcuffed. After handcuffing the snook fisherman, the Officer turns his attention to the fisherman who caught the mullet. The officer counts the mullet in the first cooler. The recreational limit for mullet is 50 mullet per person, per day. FYI, there is no minimum size limit for mullet in Florida. The officer counts 76 mullet in the cooler. Officer confiscates the castnet used to harvest the 7 snook. FWC officers have the right to confiscate any equipment used to illegally harvest wildlife. Snook Fisherman faces several charges. 6 counts for over the limit possession, 7 counts for Undersized snook, 1 count for taking snook by illegal method with a castnet, no snook stamp. And he is charged with having over three snook violations. The fisherman with too many mullet is issued a warning. The officer gave the extra mullet to a few kids who were fishing nearby. The fisherman who caught the snook is facing fines from $3,000 to $5,000 and up to 60 days in jail.
