In June 2019, Chicago police were called to a Lakeview parking lot after a tow operator reported that chairs had been thrown at his truck while it was hooking up a rental vehicle. The man at the center of it was Jeremy Dewitte, the Florida funeral escort company owner widely described as a serial police impersonator. On bodycam, Dewitte says the tow operator approached his wife with a long screwdriver and that he threw a chair to protect his family. Officers want to see the rental agreement, and the argument turns to who controls the property and whether the vehicle can stay. Dewitte demands a sergeant. A supervisor tells him to control his temper and apologize before the other party presses charges. He apologizes, then keeps arguing. Officers document damage to the vehicle and remind him the chairs could have hurt someone. Dewitte insists he works with a private security business and never claimed to be a police officer. Later, in a recorded interview, an investigator asks Dewitte about his history and this incident. He admits throwing chairs "to get someone's attention" and says he believed the vehicle was being taken improperly. Note: Dewitte was charged in connection with this incident, but news reports say Cook County prosecutors later dropped all charges. Everyone shown is presumed innocent of any allegation not proven in court. This video is for commentary and educational purposes. Which moment shocked you most?
