On January 15, 2023, Collier County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Walmart after employees observed a woman and her daughter bagging toys without paying. Staff overheard the mother telling her child to place toys in their cart. As they exited, police and store employees confronted the woman, and the unpaid merchandise led to her arrest. The woman claimed she had a receipt or might have lost it while shopping or exiting Walmart. She insisted she hadn’t stolen anything and even offered to pay for the items again. Still, her explanation raised suspicion. Employees reported seeing her bagging items and telling her child to place toys in the cart, without checking out at any register, behavior they believed clearly showed she never intended to pay. The suspect was charged with felony grand theft, and it turns out she is a felon under probation.
