On April 6, 2023, CHP investigators attempted to serve a Felony Search Warrant on Abril at Mahany Park. When CHP Officers tried to detain Abril, He ran and fired multiple rounds at the CHP Officers and ran away. After running away from the Officers Abril hid in the creek and took a female civilian hostage. A Multi-Agency Hostage Rescue Team was assembled and Two Armored Vehicles were used to Arrest Abril and rescue the hostage. Abril Sustained two non-life-threatening Gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital. On March 4, 2026, Eric Abril Plead Guilty in Placer County Superior Court to the Murder of the male Victim and the shooting of the Female victim and CHP Officer.
