On April 3, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the Southern Division Crime Suppression Team responded to reports of a reckless motorcyclist riding a black electric Surron motorcycle through Los Angeles streets. The rider had been observed by a CHP air unit performing wheelies within traffic lanes on Figueroa Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Patrol Officers eventually located the motorcycle near the Los Angeles Convention Center and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The rider failed to yield and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, the motorcyclist continued performing a wheelie and traveled the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Figueroa Street before entering additional city streets. The rider later traveled the wrong way on Flower Street toward oncoming traffic. Because of the dangerous conditions, CHP terminated the ground pursuit. A CHP helicopter continued tracking the motorcycle from above as the rider traveled through city streets. The helicopter eventually directed officers to the motorcycle near Burlington Avenue between 14th Street and Venice Boulevard. Officers conducted a felony stop and took the rider into custody without further incident. The rider was booked into the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Century Station on the following charges: CVC 2800.2(a) — Felony evading a pursuing peace officer with willful or wanton disregard for safety.
