On January 30, 2026, Andrew Nguyen — a former NYPD Transit District 12 officer assigned to the East Bronx subway system beginning in 2008 — pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres in the Southern District of New York to three federal counts including bribery, narcotics distribution conspiracy, and a firearms offense, after a joint FBI and NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau investigation revealed he had accepted more than $30,000 in bribes and transported over eight kilograms of cocaine on behalf of a Bronx and Manhattan drug trafficking enterprise between 2020 and 2023. Nguyen's connection to the trafficking operation's ringleader predated his law enforcement career by two years, and he used his NYPD credentials, off-duty firearm, parking placard, and confidential database access to shield the operation from competitors and law enforcement alike — including staging an unauthorized vehicle stop using an unmarked police car to help the trafficker avoid repaying a $245,000 drug debt by faking a seizure of a rival's narcotics. He was caught in a November and December 2023 undercover sting in which he physically accepted what he believed were five kilograms of cocaine from a federal undercover officer in exchange for $5,000 — a transaction fully surveilled and documented — by which point Nguyen had already been fired from the NYPD for stealing children's sneakers from a precinct property room and was working as a bus driver. He remains held in custody pending sentencing.
