*HAPPY FRIDAY!* On March 1st, 2026, at around 4:43 P.M., I was patrolling southbound on Highway 86 North. I observed a white male operating a green ATV unlawfully on the highway, traveling Northbound on Highway 86 North in the northbound lane. As I was turning around to get behind the ATV, the suspect rider began driving on and off the shoulder, looking behind him in my direction. I initiated my emergency lights as the ATV quickly pulled into the Brown Grove Fire Department parking lot. The ATV then began traveling in a north-easterly direction through farm fields. I immediately activated my patrol unit's sirens, and the ATV began gaining speed and evading. The ATV made several circles through farm fields, attempting to get away before turning onto Highway 86 North and continuing to flee northbound. The rider abruptly applied brakes several times in front of me before turning west onto Hall Road. After turning onto Hall Road, the ATV attempted to turn right into a farm field and lost control, rolling over onto its left side. The rider, later identified as (JOHN GALES W/M), quickly got off the ground, began walking backwards while looking around, with his hands on his waistband, not following my commands. I deployed my Taser to gain compliance, and it was successful, causing Gales to lie down on the ground on his back. Gales rolled to his front while reaching into his waistband, refusing to follow my commands. I deployed my Taser a second time to gain compliance. Gales again refused to follow my commands, so I deployed my Taser in a five-second cycle to gain compliance. Gales then began following my commands and placed both of his hands behind his back. Gales was placed into custody without further incident. During a search of his person prior to transport, I located an edge-style pocket knife in his right front pocket. Des Arc Ambulance Service was called to remove the Taser Probe from Gales’ abdominal area and to check his welfare, but he denied medical attention and permitted me to remove the probes. I removed one probe from his upper abdominal area, two from just above his belt line, and one from his right boot heel. Only one photograph was taken of the probe puncture sites. Gales was transported to the Prairie County Jail and booked in. The ATV had no damage; therefore, a crash report was not warranted. Note: There is a discrepancy in the initial use of force time; the in-car camera system notes the time as 4:47 P.M., and the taser log notes the time as 4:48 P.M. CHARGES FILED: 5-54-125(d): FLEEING - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE 27-21-106: DRIVING ATV ON PUBLIC HIGHWAY 27-51-104: CARELESS AND PROHIBITED DRIVING 5-54-103(a): RESISTING ARREST 5-54-125(c): FLEEING - ON FOOT
