On July 7, 2018, deputies in Augusta, Georgia, responded to an apartment where four-year-old Justin Foss Jr. had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, prompting an investigation into firearm access and child safety. His parents, Justin Foss Sr. and Shelby Foss, were indicted on murder and child cruelty charges, with Justin also facing a firearm possession charge. Shelby pleaded not guilty, and her bond was later reduced in June 2020, but the final court outcomes are not provided in the script.
