On October 5, 2024, at 1651 hours, a deputy responded to a disturbance at a campground. Upon arrival, the deputy met with the campground manager, who reported receiving a call from another resident about an individual causing a disturbance outside. The manager observed the individual yelling at other residents and was informed that he had broken a window in his camper trailer. Additionally, the individual was reported to be pounding on surrounding RVs, standing on picnic tables, and flailing his arms. The manager indicated that this behavior had been an ongoing issue in recent weeks and provided both a verbal and sworn written statement regarding the incident. Upon arrival, the deputy witnessed the individual's erratic behavior; he was screaming, pacing around his RV, and continued to yell even when he moved out of sight. For the safety of other guests, the deputy approached the individual to gain his attention away from the residents. The individual began yelling about being harassed. The deputy attempted to de-escalate the situation while the individual continued to shout. When asked if he was being detained, the deputy confirmed that he was, and the individual voluntarily placed his hands behind his back, at which point he was secured in handcuffs. During the investigation, it was reported that a 79-year-old resident had been verbally assaulted by the individual. The deputy spoke with her, and she explained that she was having a meal with her spouse when the disturbance began. Disturbed by the yelling, she went outside and saw the individual yelling obscenities. When he threatened her, she quickly retreated into her home for safety. She expressed fear of the individual and believed he could jump the fence separating their properties. She wished to press charges for the threat and provided a sworn written statement. After assessing the situation, it was determined that the individual had committed disorderly conduct and misdemeanor assault against a person over 65. He was placed under arrest, and the deputy advised him of his Miranda rights, which he understood. Although he denied making the verbal threat, he continued to speak incoherently about unrelated topics. The deputy completed the necessary forms for prosecution and documented the scene, including the broken window of the individual's trailer, and uploaded body camera footage. The individual was transported to the appropriate facility without incident and was charged with breach of peace and assault against a person over 65.
