On February 25, 2025, just after 2:20 a.m., IMPD officers responded to a report of an injured person at the Speedway gas station in the 1600 block of East Washington Street. Upon arrival, they found a woman who had reportedly been assaulted by multiple individuals and called for emergency medical assistance. While tending to her, officers spotted 31-year-old Adam Javonta Sykes, who had an active warrant for theft in Marion County. An officer attempted to make contact with Sykes, but he refused to engage and began walking away. When told to remove his hands from his pockets, Sykes ignored the commands and took off running northbound on State Street. During the chase, officers ordered Sykes to stop and take his hands out of his pockets, warning they would use a Taser if he did not comply. In the 120 block of State Street, an officer deployed a Taser, striking Sykes and causing him to fall to the ground. As Sykes was falling, a handgun dropped from his hands onto the ground. While still on the ground, Sykes appeared to reach for the weapon. In response, the officer drew his firearm and fired three shots, striking Sykes. A loaded handgun was recovered near Sykes, and officers immediately began CPR and provided first aid. IEMS crews arrived shortly after and transported him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. 0:00 - Intro 0:13 - CCTV footage 0:54 - Officer 1 bodycam 1:52 - Shooting 2:25 - Slow down and zoom 2:47 - Officer 2 bodycam 4:15 - Aftermath #PoliceChase #OfficerInvolvedShooting #BodycamFootage #IMPD #PoliceFootPursuit #TaserUse #PoliceNews #BreakingNews #CrimeNews #GunRecovered #LawEnforcement #UseOfForce #PoliceInvestigation #IndianaNews #AdamJavontaSykes #PoliceIncident #CriminalInvestigation #StreetCrime #SuspectShot #policeresponse --------------------------------------- Credits: Music: Violation by Soundridemusic Link to Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT35z4DZb3M&t=0s
