On March 23, 2024, officers responded to a reported shoplifting at a Carter's store inside Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach after store employees reported that two women had concealed merchandise and left without paying. Officers quickly began searching the outlet mall and located one woman matching the description inside a nearby Nike store. Body camera footage captures the investigation, officer interviews, and the events that ultimately led to her arrest. Following the investigation, the woman was taken into custody. Based on the conduct documented in this body camera footage, she could potentially face a charge of Retail Theft. The second woman involved in the investigation could also potentially face a Retail Theft charge if she is identified and formally charged. Final charging decisions are made by prosecutors based on the available evidence, and the ultimate outcome of the case is determined by the court. All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
