On the 26th of October 2022, Edmond Police Department received the report of a possible drunk driver in the parking lot of “The Patriarch” bar. The bar, at this time, had already refused to serve the intoxicated subject, who was last seen stumbling before getting into a white SUV, possibly throwing up beside the vehicle. When officers arrived at the parking lot they observed the white SUV running and a male suspect sitting in the driver's seat. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and had some difficulty exiting the vehicle, holding onto the door to balance himself. An officer began to speak with the suspect asking him how much he had had to drink that night, to which he replied “A couple of beers at The Patriarch”. Upon talking further with the suspect the officers learned from the suspect he began drinking at 10 pm that night according to his statements. The suspect told the officers he believed, at the time of the conversation, it was 1 am when it was actually 11:47 pm. Shortly after he then stated he had about “3 or 4 drinks” and now believed it was around 1:30 am to 2:00 am. Throughout questioning officers reported smelling “an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person” as well as the suspect having slurred speech and being very unsteady on his feet. The suspect told officers he had two single Vodka-Tonics at the bar which were approximately 8oz each. Upon hearing this the officer told the suspect he did not believe that he was being truthful about how much he had to drink. The officer went on to explain to the suspect that they had already received a call from someone stating he had sown up to the bar already intoxicated. The suspect told officers he did not believe he was intoxicated prior to entering the bar. Upon learning this, officers asked him where he was prior to this event to which the suspect replied he had dinner at a restaurant in Oklahoma City but did not have anything to drink there. After finishing the questioning the officer asked the suspect if he was willing to perform a Field Sobriety Test to which he agreed. The test consisted of three parts, HGNT, Walk and Turn Test, and the One Leg Stand. In the first test, HGNT, the suspect had difficulty performing the test. Prior to starting the Walk and Turn Test the officer asked if the suspect had any injuries the suspect told the officer he had a previous ACL injury in his left knee before asking the officer “How long do I have to do this?”. A Sergeant on the scene explained to him that it was until they could determine if he was safe to drive. He also informed the suspect that the tests were all voluntary and that he could deny any test. During the officer explaining the instructions to the suspect, he stated “That’s asking a lot”. When the officer asked him what he meant, he stated “That’s very complicated”. The suspect went on to perform the test missing steps and appearing very unsteady on his feet during the Walk and Turn Test. He also showed difficulty performing this test, swaying on his feet, and having poor balance. When officers asked the suspect his thoughts on the Field Sobriety Test he replied “I think I can make it home for two blocks.” The Sgt. asked him “Do you think you’re not too intoxicated to drive home legally?” the suspect replied, “Yes sir, I do.” going on to say “I do think I can drink home safely and legally.” At one point asking “Would you like me to call Kevin Stitt?” (Governor of Oklahoma) before being told that was not necessary. The suspect stated he worked for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Based on the suspect's physical state and Field Sobriety Test the officer deemed him too impaired to safely operate a vehicle and subsequently placed him under arrest for DUI. He was later transported to jail by the officer. #police #cop #bodycam #chase ~~~ RealBodyCams is a YouTube Channel where we provide video content covering US law enforcement & crime.
