On March 24, 2025, at approximately 8:22 PM, an Arkansas State Trooper attempted to stop a gray Buick SUV after it made an unsafe turn onto the I-40 entrance ramp from Highway 161. Instead of stopping, the driver—identified as Steven Franklin—accelerated and began a dangerous high-speed pursuit. The chase quickly escalated as the suspect drove into oncoming traffic, ran multiple red lights, and reached speeds of up to 125 MPH across I-40 and I-440. Troopers attempted to end the pursuit multiple times, but the driver continued fleeing through busy roadways and residential streets. The pursuit came to an end on a dead-end road when the suspect jumped from the moving vehicle, causing it to crash into a tree. Troopers pinned the vehicle and pursued the suspect on foot as he fled into a wooded area. During the search of the vehicle, troopers made a shocking discovery — a 5-month-old child was found inside, unsecured and in a dangerous condition. The child was transported to the hospital and later placed in the custody of child services. Authorities also recovered: A Palmetto State Armory PA-15 rifle Multiple packages of suspected marijuana Drug paraphernalia and a scale The suspect was located approximately two hours later and taken into custody by North Little Rock Police. He was transported to jail and faces multiple serious charges, including felony fleeing, child endangerment, and drug/firearm offenses. ⚠️ All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
