On the afternoon of February 4, 2025, North Las Vegas police received multiple reports about a man armed with a gun, throwing rocks at vehicles. One caller, a woman, reported that her car window had been shattered. The suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Alexander Mathis, was seen walking along Camino Al Norte near its intersection with West Lone Mountain Road. Officer Jason Roscow located the suspect in the 1300 block of Misty View Court, armed with a black 9mm handgun. He ordered the suspect to show his hands, but the man ignored his commands and advanced toward him, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Roscow managed to fire 16 rounds, striking Alexander Mathis, who died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Another officer, 36-year-old Luis Macias-Venegas, also fired one round, though police have not disclosed where it landed. Responding NLVPD officers administered medical aid until paramedics arrived. Officer Roscow was transported to University Medical Center around 2:30 p.m. but later succumbed to his injuries. Mathis was also taken to UMC, where he was pronounced dead. 0:00 - Description of events 0:16 - 911 call #1 0:53 - 911 call #2 1:29 - Officer Roscow's bodycam 2:10 - Officer Macia-Venegas' bodycam #JasonRoscow #NorthLasVegas #LasVegasNews #PoliceShootout #OfficerKilled #BreakingNews #CrimeNews #PoliceIncident #GunViolence #NevadaNews #NewsUpdate #NLVPD #PoliceShooting #LawEnforcement #SuspectKilled #SelfDefense #Shootout #PoliceResponse #GunfireExchange #CrimeReport #NewsAlert Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
