We have, however, made sure to highlight the key moments that remain visible for your review. A 26-year-old man ( Logan Allen Johnson) was killed, and a 30-year-old man was injured after a crash occurred Tuesday night as they attempted to flee from Akron police. The incident started just before 7 p.m. on Copley Road, where officers spotted a vehicle involved in what they considered "suspicious activity." Akron police were asked how long it took from the moment they called off the chase to when the crash happened. Preliminary information suggests that "from the time of the chase cancellation to the crash, it's around 28 to 29 seconds," according to Miller. The fleeing vehicle continued north on Roslyn Avenue, ignored a stop sign at Copley Road, and collided with another car. It then sideswiped two additional vehicles before crashing into a tree. The driver, identified as Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 30-year-old passenger was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Two individuals from the other vehicles that were hit were also taken to the hospital, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Police reported finding a loaded handgun inside the vehicle that fled the scene. It was noted that the uniformed detective involved in the incident did not have a body camera or dashcam on their cruiser. Michael Benza, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University, commented on the situation: "People will naturally wonder why an undercover agent involved in this type of investigation is conducting a traffic stop." Akron Police have initiated an internal investigation to confirm whether the officer involved followed proper protocol. The officer remains active on duty. Benza further remarked, "There's growing concern from the public about the dangers of high-speed chases. But ultimately, it's the individual refusing to stop that's causing the issue. If they pull over when the lights are on, none of this happens."
