Two Torrance police officers involved in the fatal shooting last December of a suspected armed car thief — an incident that sparked ongoing demonstrations at City Council meetings by Black Lives Matter protesters — acted lawfully and in self-defense, investigators with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office concluded. The office’s Justice System Integrity Division penned the nine-page analysis of the death of Christopher DeAndre Mitchell, shot in the parking lot of a Carson Street supermarket in Old Torrance on Dec. 9. The report, released last week, said no further action would be taken against the officers involved.
