On February 25, 2024, at about 6:35 PM, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) arrested 33-year-old David Gong of Newton after a fire was set inside a restroom at a Liberty Drive establishment. Gong had been refused service for intoxication, threw water at the bar, and then went to the restroom where he caused damage before telling staff there was a fire inside. Boston Fire responded and extinguished flames in a restroom trash barrel. Officers located Gong outside the establishment and placed him under arrest. He was charged with burning of a public building, burning of personal property, attempted arson of a dwelling house, attempted burning of a public building, and malicious destruction of property.
