A routine traffic stop for erratic driving quickly uncovers signs of impairment, leading to a comprehensive investigation. On September 11, 2022, a deputy observed a vehicle driving erratically, crossing the center line and nearly rear-ending another car, prompting a traffic stop at approximately 4:18 AM. During the interaction, the deputy detected the odor of alcohol and noted the driver's incoherent state, leading to a request for voluntary field sobriety exercises. After failing multiple tests, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus where distinct nystagmus was observed in both eyes, and the Walk and Turn where she walked backward, and a PBT showing a 0.125% BAC, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Subsequently, at the detention facility, the driver's Alcotest confirmed a BAC of 0.111%, significantly above legal limits for an under-21 motorist, resulting in booking and later a plea to negligent driving with probation and fines. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
