Police Report: On April 6th, 2024, at approximately 0340 hours, I was on patrol in the area of Sorrento Ave and Long Acres Dr when I observed a red Pontiac hatchback, bearing Florida license plate IX46DZ, traveling west on Sorrento Ave. Upon observing the vehicle, I conducted a query of the attached license plate as the vehicle traveled north on Long Acres Dr. The query revealed that the attached license plate had expired as of 10/03/2022. Upon this discovery, I activated my emergency lights in the area of Wallick Rd and CR 437 to conduct a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, I observed a white male driver occupying the driver's seat. Upon contact with the driver, I requested his driver's license, to which he replied, "I don't travel with a license." At this time, I requested the driver's name and date of birth. He provided the name Brett Peavey with a date of birth of 06/01/1980. A query of the name provided revealed that Brett did not possess a valid driver's license. With the information obtained, I notified Brett that the reason for the stop was the expired registration. Brett advised me that he allowed it to happen as the vehicle was still operable and that the vehicle is not owned by the state. I then opened the driver’s door and requested that Brett exit the vehicle, but he did not comply. Brett was asked several times to exit the vehicle, with no success. Subsequently, I placed my hand on Brett's left wrist to assist him in exiting the vehicle when I noticed that Brett began to tense his arms. Brett then willingly exited the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, Brett was told to face the vehicle, but he did not comply. When I attempted to detain Brett in handcuffs, he began to tense up and resist law enforcement. After a short struggle, Brett was advised that he would be tased if he did not comply. At this time, Brett stopped resisting and was detained in handcuffs. Upon reviewing Brett's driving history, I observed that he had been a habitual traffic offender since 09/08/2021 with a length of 5 years and a status of revoked. Brett had 5 prior charges for driving with a suspended license and 2 criminal failure-to-pay infractions. Brett was subsequently transported to LCJ without further incident.
