A traffic stop on a stolen car. A driver who doesn't stay in the vehicle. And four seconds that could have ended very differently. On September 15, 2022, a License Plate Reader flagged a stolen vehicle on LaSalle Street in Charlotte's Metro Division. When officers moved in to stop it at Onyx Street and Dundeen Street, the driver ran — carrying a firearm the entire time. Multiple officers, perceiving an imminent threat, discharged their weapons. The suspect was not hit. Nobody was injured. He surrendered and was taken into custody, along with three others from the vehicle, including two juveniles. Multiple firearms were recovered in total.
