STOW, OH - On January 24th, 2023 at 3:50AM, a patrolman with the Stow Police Department observed a vehicle with extensive damage near the area of an alleged hit and run. The patrolman then positioned his squad car behind the vehicle in question at a gas station within city limits. The suspect claimed that she was going through a breakup with her boyfriend and currently off of her antidepressant medication. The suspect further claimed that she was not involved in an accident earlier and that her vehicle had been damaged a month ago. While investigating the suspect, a patrolman from neighboring Cuyahoga Falls began questioning her. The suspect again claimed that she was not involved in an accident that morning and reiterated the fact that she was not on her antidepressant medication and had just recently ended a relationship. After the patrolman from Cuyahoga Falls left to go to the scene of the accident, the patrolman with the Stow Police Department asked the suspect to exit her vehicle to which she complied. Once outside the vehicle, the suspect admitted to drinking alcohol earlier. The patrolman then began to administer a field sobriety test. The first test that was performed was the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. The suspect displayed lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. During the walk-and-turn test, the suspect raised her arms for balance and did not touch heel-to-toe on every step. The suspect also made an improper turn and began walking perperndicular to the first set of steps. For the one leg stand, the suspect raised her arms for balance and swayed back and forth while balancing. At the conclusion of the tests, the suspect was arrested for physical control of vehicle while under the influence and transported to the Stow Police Department for further processing. During the accident investigation, the suspect's vehicle was determined to have been involved. As such, the suspect was then charged with stopping after accident on public roads or highways, or hit-skip.
