It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 3:05 a.m. on June 7, 2025, Sergeant Connor McGrath of the Highlands Police Department spotted a black 2004 Honda Accord. The car blew through a red light. It was turning left from Orchard Avenue onto SR 36. He started chasing it. Soon, the driver ran another red light at the Linden Avenue jug handle. McGrath hit his lights and siren for a stop. But the driver kept going. She ignored a stop sign at Linden and Waterwitch Avenues. Then she turned left onto Waterwitch. Next, she veered left onto Shore Drive. She sped toward Popamora Park at high speed. Shore Drive ends in a dead end. So McGrath slowed down. He radioed his spot to dispatch. The driver pulled into a driveway on Shore Drive. She blared the car's horn loud. McGrath walked up to her car. He told her to get out. She wouldn't budge. She stayed uncooperative. He had to pull her out by force. She fought back hard. In the struggle, his body camera fell off his vest for a bit. But Patrolman Robert Alvator pulled up quick. His camera caught most of the fight. The driver was Amanda Peters. Officers cuffed her. They walked her to the patrol car. While searching her car after the arrest, they smelled burnt pot. They thought she might be impaired. So they held her car for 12 hours under John's Law. They towed it away. Back at the Highlands station, McGrath ran sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. He saw no smooth eye tracking. Plus, her eyes jerked clear at the max angle. And the jerk held steady. Next was the Walk and Turn. Amanda missed heel-to-toe steps. She took the wrong number of steps. Her turn was all wrong. Last, the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. She dropped it too soon. They decided she was drunk. McGrath read the standard rights for drivers. He asked if she'd give breath samples. That's when Amanda lost it. She got wild and yelled threats to charge the cops. Patrolman Kevin Connor cuffed her to the bench. She still resisted. They chose to take her to the hospital. Patrolman Alvator drove her to Monmouth Medical Center. He handed her off to hospital staff. Amanda got these tickets: Driving under the influence Refusing a chemical test Reckless driving Ignoring a traffic signal Blowing a stop sign Straying from marked lanes Misusing horn or warning gear She faced charges too. Resisting arrest under 2C:29-2A(1). And eluding under 2C:29-2B.
