On May 10, 2025, Lacey Police Officer Pratts allegedly saw the driver of a vehicle commit a lane violation by unintentionally veering into the outside lane nearly striking another vehicle traveling in the outside lane. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was driven by a 54-year-old woman, who was transporting her heavily intoxicated husband in the passenger seat. She initially admitted to drinking one beer at a nearby restaurant. Because of this, she was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Between a language barrier and her claim that she had an injured leg, only the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test was performed. The woman was placed under arrest and was transported to the Lacey Police Station. Because she was unable to complete the evidential breath test, a warrant was obtained for her blood. She was booked into the Nisqually Tribal Jail on a charge of Driving Under the Influence.
