On June 17, 2021 in Arcata, California, a traffic stop turned into a viral police bodycam controversy after officers spotted a juvenile hanging out of a sunroof. 20-year-old Samantha Alonso Luna confronted university police after the juvenile was detained. Officers say Luna refused to fully identify, argued with police, and escalated the encounter. When told she was under arrest, she resisted, screamed profanities, and grabbed an officer’s hair, leading to a chaotic struggle involving multiple officers. This viral arrest clip shows the moment Luna was pulled from the vehicle and dragged out by her hair, sparking a nationwide debate over police use of force, resisting arrest, and whether this was police brutality or a situation that got out of control. Luna was charged with resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, public intoxication, and false ID. In April 2022, the case was resolved through an informal diversion program and all charges were dismissed. 👇 Police brutality… or did she push it too far?
