FULL REPORT: On September 1, 2024 at approximately 2321 hours, I Deputy Z. Meeks 106 was in the area of Jonesboro Rd and Battlecreek Rd shift over a lane without signaling. I then ran the tag on GCIC, which came back as a suspended license driver for DUI. I activated my license and sirens to conduct a traffic stop. Once activated, the driver later identified as Amber Redding, fail to stop and started to flee. Ms. Redding then made a right turn on Jonesboro Rd failing to yield and disobeying the signal and started fleeing. Ms. Redding then made an improper U-Turn turning into the gas station recklessly on Jonesboro Rd. and Highway 138 causing pedestrians to move fearfully out the way. Ms. Redding exited the gas station and continued south on main street entering downtown Jonesboro with speeds up to 72 MPH. Ms. Redding then made a turn on main and spring street, entering into the neighborhood. While in area, Ms. Redding ran the stop signs at the following intersections: Lee and Dixon, Lee and Spring, Dean and Spring, Spring and Main. While on Lee Street, Ms. Redding stopped her car as if the pursuit was over. I pulled alongside the left side of Ms. Redding and noticed she was not wearing a seat belt. Once authorization from the Sheriff Levon Allen was given, a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) was performed to stop the reckless pursuit ending at Main Street and Main Court. Once I exited the vehicle, I noticed Ms. Redding attempting to flee but later fell trying to run downhill. She was placed in double locked handcuffs and placed inside of my patrol car. While placed inside, I began talking to Ms. Redding and smelled a very strong odor of alcohol coming from Ms. Redding breathe. I asked Ms. Redding did she have anything to drink, and she stated, “no”. I then advised Ms. Redding or her reddish eye coloring, the alcoholic smell which was emitting to the front of my patrol car, the slurred speech and her behavior. Being that Ms. Redding was complaining of pain and injury, no DUI testing was conducted. Fire/ambulance personnel was called to the seen. After being treated, Ms. Redding was then taken to Southern Regional Hospital for medical clearance. While at the hospital, Deputy I. Johnson 32614 performed a blood alcohol/toxicology test, which was later mailed off for testing. Trooper Joseph Song 570 arrived on scene and completed a crash report, due to a PIT being used in the pursuit. After being released from the hospital, Ms. Redding was transported to the Clayton County Sheriff Office. Body worn camera activated during this encounter.
