⚠️⚠️⚠️Mr. Goins was found guilty on the charges in the Akron Municipal Court Case #24-CR-01137 on 3/11/2024.⚠️⚠️⚠️ Officers observed a silver Jeep Cherokee SB on S. Arlington at speeds estimated at 65 mph (posted speed 35). When the officers entered the roadway and attempted to catch up to the Jeep. Near the intersection of S. Arlington and Archwood, they observed the Jeep merge from the curb lane to the middle lane, slow for the red light at Archwood, and then make an illegal right-hand turn onto Archwood heading WB. The Jeep made the turn in front of another vehicle that was sitting stopped at the light and did not use a turn signal. As we approached the intersection of Arlington and Archwood we activated our overhead lights. Officers were still attempting to catch up to the vehicle we observed the Jeep turn SB on Sylvan from Archwood. When the vehicle turned onto Sylvan the driver, who was later identified as Mr. Goins, turned all of the Jeep's lights off. From Sylvan, the Jeep turned EB onto Davies. We finally caught up to the vehicle at Davies and S. Arlington. Where Goins turned the lights to the Jeep back on and stopped for the posted stop sign. The Jeep then turned SB on Arlington where it finally stopped near the intersection of Austin and S. Arlington. Goins was then called out of the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident. Post-Miranda, Goins stated that he noticed that we were behind him when he turned onto Archwood. Goins was subsequently charged with willful fleeing (M1) and issued a citation for reckless operation of the vehicle due to his unsafe speeds, turning the lights off of the vehicle, improper turn, and not using turn signals.
