Axeel Melendez warned law enforcement that hackers were threatening to swat his home. Police reportedly assured him that nothing would happen. Less than 48 hours later, deputies broke through his bedroom window and shot him—leaving the 24-year-old paralyzed from the chest down. 📄 Story tips, resources & support 👉 https://www.thinblueliesmedia.com Submit police accountability tips, bodycam footage, public records, court documents, and local story leads. Two days later, someone posing as Axeel falsely reported that his father had shot his sister. Pima County sheriff’s deputies arrived around 5:40 a.m. believing they were responding to an active shooting. Deputies eventually broke through a bedroom window, encountered Axeel holding his family’s legally owned handgun, and opened fire. Axeel’s attorneys maintain that he was hiding and did not point the weapon at deputies. The official critical-incident account described him as pointing it toward them. The bodycam encounter unfolded within seconds, and the accounts remain disputed. According to Axeel’s notice of claim, authorities missed multiple opportunities to recognize the call as swatting—including his earlier warning and additional alleged red flags in the fake report. The family has initiated Arizona’s required pre-lawsuit claim process against Pima County and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The department declined to comment, citing pending litigation. The allegations have not been proven in court. Commentary and analysis by Thin Blue Lies.
