On February 5, 2025, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Police Officers Zachary Guido and Marco Grossman responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting where store security had a suspect in custody. When they arrived, they learned the actor, later identified as 47-year-old Michael Fortune of Jersey City, placed multiple items worth a total of $277.47 into a bag and tried to leave the store without paying. He was stopped by security, who called the police. Fortune was arrested for shoplifting and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing. It was discovered he had four outstanding warrants out of Hoboken. Fortune was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
