On May 23, 2023, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, officers of the La Crosse County Sheriffs Office were dispatched on reports of a man that had been yelling at his sister and broke a lock on a door at a residence that they were to be evicted from in a few days. It was believed that the man, named Brent, was possibly intoxicated and had left the residence in a vehicle after the sister called 911. Officers located the vehicle shortly after the call and performed a traffic stop. Officers made contact with Brent and he was asked to exit his vehicle. Brent did not comply, but did calmly speak with officers about what had occurred. Eventually, Brent started his car and he was told not to drive away. Brent disobeyed this order and drove slowly away from the officers. Officers followed Brent back to his residence after he drove away from them. The first officer on scene noticed that there was a hammer in Brent's vehicle. Officers attempted to get Brent out of the vehicle and to have him lay on the ground. Brent did not obey, he did get on his knees, but he did not lay on the ground. After Brent got up from his knees and began yelling at officers, a taser was deployed, incapacitating Brent. Officers were able to hand cuff and arrest Brent. Brent was escorted to the back of a squad car and brought to jail without further incident. Brent was charged with OWI 3rd, operating with prohibited alcohol concentration 3rd, resisting or obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. He was found guilty of OWI 3rd and sentenced to 45 days in local jail and his drivers license was revoked for 2 years. ❓Inquiries: LensOfLaw@gmail.com ☕Support Me: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lensoflaw 🔗My Links: https://lensoflaw.com The content we highlight is designed to provide a real-life glimpse into the encounters of law enforcement, not to demean or belittle those featured.
