On July 26, 2025 at approxamatly 3 a.m. on Washington Street in Hoboken, New Jersey, police bodycam footage captured the dramatic arrest of 22-year-old Joniyah Cardenas of Linden. Officers say she pulled her black Tesla Model 3 out of a parking spot so aggressively it nearly collided with their patrol car. When they approached, they immediately noticed the strong odor of alcohol and saw a bottle of Casamigos tequila sitting in plain view inside the vehicle. Despite claiming she had only “one drink,” Joniyah struggled with the field sobriety test. Her performance raised multiple red flags, from difficulty following instructions to stepping off line during the walk-and-turn. After the test, she was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Reckless Driving. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where she was processed and released under John’s Law into the custody of a responsible party. Her vehicle was impounded for 12 hours before being returned. Watch the full video to see how the sobriety test, the arrest, and the aftermath all unfold on bodycam.
